Originally from the US, I've been living and working in Vienna since 2012. I have undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Economics from a US university, a master's degree in Economics (focusing on Econometrics) from an Austrian university, and Master of Education specializing in secondary math and special education. I've worked as a teacher's aide, substitute teacher, co-teacher, adjunct professor, and private tutor over the course of the last 15 years.
I've enjoyed explaining complicated topics for as long as I can remember, and I find that I have an ability to make maths topics accessible to any audience from 6th grade through university. I have considerable experience with the IB maths curriculum, the MYP math, as well as the full range of middle- and high-school US maths courses. I have limited experience working with students at Austrian Gymnasium schools and local universities in Vienna.
I have been mathematics and physics tutor for over 15 years, working with students ranging from Grade 6 through the early years of university. I received my IB diploma in 2002 with maths and physics as my higher level subjects. My undergraduate degree is in Physics Engineering with a thesis in Leonard-Jones Binary Fluids. I started tutoring when I was in high school and worked as a substitute teacher for mathematics and physics courses at my university.
Having been born in Mexico City and raised within the international community, I grew up fully bilingual in English and Spanish. I'm comfortable explaining maths and physics jargon in both languages to students trying to adapt to international schools. I'm also experienced with the US mathematics curriculum used in American international schools and preparing students for the maths portion of the SATs. My role as a tutor ranges from supporting those with distinct learning needs to challenging those who want to go above and beyond. It's always possible to make a maths-hating student learn to enjoy it.
